Hard on the Socks
4 November 2008On occasion in Hillcrest, I find footwear on the sidewalk, at some corner. And I don't mean a lone sneaker or flip-flop; I mean a matched pair of shoes or of boots, one placed beside the other. These were at the corner of Washington Street and Third Avenue this evening:
This is what happens when boots get ready and start walking without their owners; eventually the end up lost on the side of the road, hoping to hitch a ride home.
They may have walked all over the one person who would otherwise have given them that ride.
Gloves find it easier to hitch-hike, as (unlike typical boots) they have thumbs.
That's just what they'd do.
Why don't people understand that shoes are for life, not just for Christmas?
